چکیده

We find explicit analytical formulae for the time dependence of the probability of the number of Okazaki fragments produced during the process of DNA replication. This extends a result of Cowan on the asymptotic probability distribution of these fragments.

Days weaving the lagging strand synthesis of DNA — A personal recollection of the discovery of Okazaki fragments and studies on discontinuous replication mechanism —

At DNA replication forks, the overall growth of the antiparallel two daughter DNA chains appears to occur 5'-to-3' direction in the leading-strand and 3'-to-5' direction in the lagging-strand using enzyme system only able to elongate 5'-to-3' direction, and I describe in this review how we have analyzed and proved the lagging strand multistep synthesis reactions, called Discontinuous Replicatio...

Effects of Soil Surface Rock Fragments on Runoff Variables of Field Plots under Rainfall Simulation

Soil surface rock fragment is considered as an important factor on runoff and soil erosion. However, few studies have been focused on quantitative evaluation of the effect of soil surface rock fragments on runoff components as an integral part of soil erosion process especially in natural conditions. The present study has been conducted to evaluate the effect of soil surface rock fragments ...

Junction ribonuclease: an activity in Okazaki fragment processing.

The initiator RNAs of mammalian Okazaki fragments are thought to be removed by RNase HI and the 5'-3' flap endonuclease (FEN1). Earlier evidence indicated that the cleavage site of RNase HI is 5' of the last ribonucleotide at the RNA-DNA junction on an Okazaki substrate. In current work, highly purified calf RNase HI makes this exact cleavage in Okazaki fragments containing mismatches that dist...

Cytarabine-induced destabilization of a model Okazaki fragment.

Cytarabine is a potent anticancer drug that interferes with elongation of the lagging strand at the replication fork during DNA synthesis. The effects of cytarabine substitution on the structural and thermodynamic properties of a model Okazaki fragment were investigated using UV hyperchromicity and 1H NMR spectroscopy to determine how cytarabine alters the physicochemical properties of Okazaki ...

RNA primer-primase complexes serve as the signal for polymerase recycling and Okazaki fragment initiation in T4 phage DNA replication.

The opposite strand polarity of duplex DNA necessitates that the leading strand is replicated continuously whereas the lagging strand is replicated in discrete segments known as Okazaki fragments. The lagging-strand polymerase sometimes recycles to begin the synthesis of a new Okazaki fragment before finishing the previous fragment, creating a gap between the Okazaki fragments. The mechanism an...
